Until just recently, I hadn’t discovered this piece of Shipshewana History and am so glad I did. Having lunch in this 128-year-old historical home of Shipshewana’s Founder was just like taking a small step back in time. Felt just like I was visiting my great-grandma’s house with all the charm and character.

If you are looking for where to eat in Shipshewana, Bread Box Bakery is seriously the best thing since sliced bread! And bread is not the only treat they are serving up there in downtown Shipshewana.

Beautifully decorated iced cookies, cinnamon rolls (the biggest I have ever seen) and scratch baked breads, pies and other desserts are ready for you to buy and take home or served up for you to enjoy in this quaint old historical home.

My personal carb-loaded favorites are the Jalapeno Cheese bread and the Apple Cinnamon bread. (Insider Tip: The Apple Cinnamon bread seriously makes the best French toast.) Notice the bread boxes all around which adds to the home-like feel. Didn't count how many they have but there are a lot!

To top it off, you can sample the jams to your heart’s content. They have 2 carousel trays for you to taste. I have to say that is so nice because looking at the 40+ jam and jelly flavors is a bit overwhelming to me. I fell in love with the Seedless Blackberry and Christmas Jam.

When I found the perfect flavors, I was able to package them together for the perfect birthday gift for my hubby. (Insider Tip: They even have a large selection of low sugar options.)

While I was there, I couldn’t resist ordering up a sandwich on their fresh baked sourdough bread with the soup of the day. And the corn muffins are to die for, so moist and sweet and a great addition to the soup. (Also, just like great-grandmas😊.)

I love that they serve up lunch all day. Makes my shopping so much more flexible and when I get hungry I can stop in and order any time. The beautiful garden seating area is perfect when the weather is just right and I was able to take in all the local sounds of shoppers and the clip-clop of the horse drawn buggies.
